I hope I have made a difference
What a joy to see you all here today,
To have shared your lives has been a pleasure
We have our memories, our dreams of the past and these we can recall and treasure
We must not dwell on the negatives; our good fortunes have been many
And whilst there may have been a few hiccups in life, so what, I’ve forgotten them already
I hope I have made a difference; I hope my love showed through
I hope you will remember me with fondness and that my light shone bright for you
We’ve been there for each other; we’ve helped out when we could
We’ve lent that bowl of sugar and done the things we should
I have been gifted with …………..children and a (husband/wife) so close and dear
How proud I am of all of you, what a family, what a legacy to revere
We’ve danced and laughed at parties, sent greetings of warmth and good cheer
In distance we may have been parted but in our hearts and minds we’ve been near
We’ve seen the decades passing and the changes for better or worse
Some we’ve greeted with a welcome and others we’ve bemoaned with a curse
Still, it’s your world now to take forward, with the wisdom and foresight you posses
A word from me of caution, don’t throw out the baby in the name of progress
I suppose it’s time for me to shut up now, having said my last goodbyes
And hope this not to be a too solemn an occasion to cause too many weeping eyes
Care for each other and enjoy your days ahead
For as we know life does not go on for ever and there’s nought you can do when you’re dead
