We cannot turn the clock back

(these words are those of a family member or close friend)

It would be nice to think that all was just in life; you reap what you do sow
But sadly, this is not the case as many of us have experienced or do know
You dear (name of the deceased) gave much to us and sought nothing in return
Yet were sadly taken far too soon from us, you’re passing we do so spurn

We cannot turn the clock back; we must cope and muddle on
Trying to live our normal lives whilst accepting that you’ve gone
Time will heal for most of us though it’s hard to see that today
At times like this friends and family, must support each other in every way

We celebrate your goodness; we celebrate the contribution you made
Humanity owes you a debt of thanks unlikely ever to be paid
But reward was never your motive; your talents magnificent
You did what you did because you could, and nothing more was your intent

(Name of the deceased) thank you for being in our lives, they’ve been enriched as I’m sure we all agree
You’ve left a void for others to fill that is clear for all to see
We will have our memories to help us through our days, be they in our mind or picture form
From all of us, we salute you, there was no doubt that you were beyond the norm
